Overview: Knowledge management in 7 stages

KnowMan intends to support European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in introducing knowledge management (KM) in a way that it really suits them. Therefore, the present toolbox has been developed and piloted in SMEs.

Image: Overview

The toolbox is structured in seven stages. These are stages of implementation of KM. Or stages for the modernisation of an already existing knowledge management system (KMS).

The seven stages build upon each other, and they form a cycle of continuous improvement. At the same time, the toolbox is conceived in such a way that stages and contents can be selected or left out. Organisations, and particularly small companies, will implement KM on individual paths and in concrete projects - which this toolbox suggests, too.

Still: The cycle of the stages is to remind of indispensable conditions and efficiency-securing follow-ups.

Select thus those parts which are useful and required for your project - like tools from a toolbox.

In seven stages you will find:

Steps of action and things worth knowing

Suitable steps of action are indicated to achieve the target of each stage. To explain the steps of action there is additional information available on the internet to be downloaded. For planning and monitoring there is the first tool in each stage.

Tools and guidelines

For all tools there is a brief explanation of their utility. That makes the selection of the downloads suggested easier. Guidelines explain the procedure. All tools can be adapted to the individuality of your company.

From the practice of SMEs

there are case studies and brief examples Supporting a pragmatic use of this toolbox, which restricts theory to the essentials, there is for technical terms a Glossary. First aid for the practical implementation of KM projects is provided by the page Information and advice. First aid - because in the future your own knowledge management should provide for it.

We wish you good luck.
